Photo Booth Fun, at Connally High School Prom 2018!

Prom Photo Booth Rental - Austin's Best DJs
Thank you, Connally HS, for your prom photo booth rental! - Austin's Best DJs

Saturday, we provided a photo booth for Connally High School's 2018 prom! The prom took place at the Courtyard by Marriott, in Round Rock, Texas. They initially contacted us to book a DJ and photo booth for their prom, but they did not get back to us quickly enough. Our DJ dates go very quickly, so unfortunately, we only had a photo booth open. We're glad we were able to at least be there with our photo booth, though! (We've DJed nearly all of Connally's events for the last few years, so we were sad to not be able to do this one). :(

The students had a blast taking pictures throughout the evening. Eliza kept everyone entertained at the photo booth with our fun, unique props. Are there any teenagers who don't like selfies? :) We'll be sure to post some pictures of the fun, soon! Thanks, again, to all the Connally HS students and faculty, for having us, again, this year!

Casino theme!
Wednesday night, we had a great time providing a DJ and photo booth, for a Casino Night, at Scottish Rite Dormitory, at the University of Texas campus, in Austin. Dorm residents were able to play a variety of casino games throughout the evening, and won tickets. A raffle was held towards the end of the night, using the tickets to decide the winners! A lot of students won prizes!

Jason personally DJed this event and played a variety of music, to keep the students dancing, all night! We played Top 40, Dance, Hip Hop, Country and Texas Country! Diana kept the students entertained at the photo booth, throughout the evening, too! Students took tons of pictures at the photo booth, all night! Even when Diana closed the photo booth, students continued to take pictures with the backdrop and props, using their phones, while she was breaking down! It was a huge hit! :)

We had a blast and look forward to the next event with SRD!

Weddings 101: The Wedding Processional Order

The Wedding Processional Order - Austin's Best DJs & Photo Booths
The Wedding Processional Order - Austin's Best DJs & Photo Booths
The order of your wedding processional or recessional, will depend on the type of wedding ceremony you're having. We usually see a religious or civil ceremony, and sometimes a military wedding ceremony. We'll discuss what we normally see at our weddings and events, but remember, this is your big day, so you can do whatever you'd like, traditional or not! :)

Christian Wedding Ceremony Processional Order

We provide our DJ and photo booth services for numerous weddings, every month, all year long. Most weddings that we do are traditional, Christian weddings. The Christian processionals and recessionals usually follow the same order. The processional order in a Christian, heterosexual wedding ceremony is:
  1. First, the officiant walks down the aisle. Then, the officiant stands at the altar. Sometimes, the groom will walk with the officiant, but usually not.
  2. Next, the groom and best man walk to the altar; sometimes, they will walk down the aisle, often they will approach the altar from a side entrance, then they stand at the altar.
  3. Next, the wedding party enters. They usually enter in pairs. If there are uneven numbers, usually two bridesmaids or groomsmen can walk together, with the escort.
  4. Next, the maid or matron of honor walks down the aisle, usually alone. If there are more than one, then we've seen them walk down the aisle, separately, and we've also seen them walk together.
  5. Then, the ring bearer walks down the aisle, alone; then, the flower girl, or boy, will follow, or all of the children can walk together.
  6. Finally, the bride and her father (or whomever she chooses) proceed, with the bride walking on the right side of her father. We're also seeing the trend that both parents will escort the bride. We've also seen step-parents walk in, as well. Again, this is your big day, so do what feels right for you!
Once everyone is at the altar, the bride stands on the left, and the groom on the right, facing the officiant. The best man stands on the right, with the ring bearer and ushers to his right. The maid of honor stands beside the bride, with the flower girl and bridesmaids to her left. (If the ring bearer, flower girl/boy or other children are too young to stand quietly throughout the wedding ceremony, usually their parents will wait for them at the end of the aisle, and sit with them during the ceremony.

Civil Ceremony & Same Sex Wedding Processional Order

Today, wedding ceremonies are becoming less traditional. Whether the ceremony is religious or not, couples should do what they want to do. There are no set rules and there is no set order for a civil ceremony. You can borrow procedures from a religious ceremony, or simply create your own. Just discuss what works for you, write it down (or your planner will) and practice it at the rehearsal. Again, what's most important is that the ceremony feels right to you!

Here's an example of the processional order in a same sex wedding ceremony.

  1. First, the officiant walks down the aisle. Then, the officiant stands at the altar. Sometimes, bride/groom #1 will walk with the officiant, but usually not. Keep in mind, in Texas, anyone can be "ordained" and become the wedding officiant. We see friends and family often perform the wedding ceremony, which can be more meaningful.
  2. Next, the bride/groom #1 and best man/woman walk to the altar; sometimes, they will walk down the aisle, often they will approach the altar from a side entrance, then they stand at the altar.
  3. Next, the wedding party enters. They usually enter in pairs. If there are uneven numbers, usually two bridesmaids or groomsmen can walk together, with the escort.
  4. Next, the maid/matron of honor, or man of honor, walk down the aisle, usually alone. If there are more than one, then we've seen them walk down the aisle, separately, and we've also seen them walk together. Again, do what feels right.
  5. Then, the ring bearer walks down the aisle, alone; after, the flower girl, or boy, will follow, or all of the children can walk together.
  6. Finally, bride/groom #2 and his/her parent (or whomever he/she chooses) proceed, with the bride/groom walking on the right side of the parent. We've also seen both parents escort the bride/groom.
Once everyone is at the altar, the bride/groom #2 stands on the left, and the bride/groom #1 is on the right, facing the officiant. The best man/woman stands on the right, with the ring bearer and ushers to his/her right. The maid/matron, or man of honor stands beside the bride/groom, with the flower girl and bridesmaids to the left. (If the ring bearer, flower girl/boy or other children are too young to stand quietly throughout the wedding ceremony, usually their parents will wait for them at the end of the aisle, and sit with them during the ceremony).

We hope this has been helpful. By no means is our lists the only way. As always, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to help!

A Fun Quinceanera, at St. Vincent de Paul - Austin, TX

quinceanera DJs and uplighting Austin
Quinceanera DJ, pink uplighting
Saturday evening, we had a blast providing our DJ services for a fun Quinceanera, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, in Austin, Texas. We helped Chiara and her friends and family celebrate her pivotal 15th birthday! Chiara wore a nice Burgundy dress, while the court wore pink. The pink and burgundy colors made for a great theme for the decor. We added pink uplighting, near the cake area, as well as near our area, to bring the room together.

Mariachi Relampago joined us and played great Mariachi hits, as well as a few other songs, for dinner. I loved their Spanish version of "My Way' from Elvis! They also played "Un Puno de Tierra, from Ramon Ayala, which was great!

Jason & Diana personally worked this event. Everyone had a great time, dancing to a a variety of pop, 80's, Latin, Reggaeton, and more. The hora loca was a lot of fun! We played a lot of their requested music and provided glow sticks. We're glad that everyone had fun!

The Top 10 Post-Wedding Brunch Places in Austin, Texas

The Top 10 Post-Wedding Brunch Places in Austin, Texas Austin's Best DJs
The Top 10 Post-Wedding Brunch Places in Austin, Texas
So the big day that you've planned for is finally done. Yay! You're now newlyweds, congratulations! If you're like most couples, today, then you know that the wedding celebration isn't quite over, yet. Most weddings are now a full weekend of events, not just one day (though it can be, of course). The post-wedding brunch typically falls on a Sunday, since most weddings are on Saturdays.

The post-wedding brunch is typically for the couple's families and wedding guests who are still in town. However, many times the wedding party also attends, as well. Basically, anyone you want to invite is welcome to attend, and you knew that already. :) When it comes to payment for the brunch, parents can pay, but more and more, the newlyweds are also paying, instead.

WHERE SHOULD YOU HAVE THE POST-WEDDING BRUNCH?

Ideally, you should try to find a place that is close to where your guests are staying or near the wedding venue, if you and your guests stayed there. If not, try to find a "landmark" location that's easy to find, so your guests from out of town can find it. You can even have it at a friend or family member's backyard! Anywhere that works best for you, should work! If you decide to have the brunch in the Austin area, we have a few great recommendations.

WHO HAS THE BEST BRUNCH IN AUSTIN, TEXAS?

This is a common question that many people are asking, just about every weekend on social media. There's no doubt about it, there are numerous amazing places in Austin that have great brunch menus! Who can resist waffles, pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit, great cocktails (Bloody Mary's & Mimosas are essential for life) and great coffee, of course? We certainly can't! I'm getting hungry just writing this! :) By the way, we're world travelers and have had amazing food and coffee in numerous countries, so it's pretty hard to impress us. The best coffee we've ever had was in Costa Rica and in Amsterdam! However, we can't compare those experiences to our local experiences, since they're quite different.

Back to the subject, so listing the "top 10" is really difficult to do. The results will vary, depending on who you ask, of course. For this list, we're considering the number of recommendations (from other wedding pros), online reviews, size of the place (for accommodations), and overall experience. That being said, here's what we came up with. Simply click on each restaurant's name, to see their websites/menus.

  1. Snooze An AM Eatery - This place has an amazing menu with food choices that you won't find anywhere else. We LOVE the Sweet Potato Pancakes & Pineapple Upside Down Cake Pancakes! They also have great Bloody Marys & Mimosas! Be aware, they are only open from 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM and they don't take reservations. Plan to get there early. It's ALWAYS busy. The patio is perfect for larger parties! With their great food and drinks, it's understandable why. :)
  2. Austin Java - Austin Java is another Austin favorite! They have several locations, including a new location in Dripping Springs, which is perfect for the Dripping Springs weddings. They have an amazing variety of great, healthy food options on their menu! Breakfast is served all day, and of course their lunch and dinner menu is filled with delicious items, too! They have a great drink menu and be sure to try their very own Chai Tea. It's their delicious recipe!  One of the best in town!
  3. Kerby Lane - Kerby Lane is an Austin staple and one of our favorite places! They have plenty of locations to choose from in Austin, and even one in Round Rock! Be aware, they're almost ALWAYS busy. Of course with their great food and drinks, it's expected. Their menu has a variety of options for various preferences. They've got plenty of amazing, healthy dishes, too! We LOVE their Third Coast Coffee, too! We actually buy a huge bag and have it at home, too. You'll love it and yes, they're from Austin. :)  They do serve mimosas, here, but the amazing food is really why you need to visit Kerby Lane. Diana loves the "Paris Texas Platter" (French toast and Migas), and Jason loves their great selection of pancakes! Try the Gingerbread pancakes, if they're available!
  4. El Chile Cafe Y Cantina - El Chile is a great place for Sunday brunch! They have great Tex-Mex food and tasty authentic Mexican food, too! Their menu has a pretty large variety of great food! We've never been disappointed with anything we've ordered! Our favorites are the "Huevos Divorciados" and "El Chile Migas" are our favorites. For brunch, be sure to order their amazing $4 "Big Ass Mimosa" or $5 Bloody Mary. This place has some of the best Micheladas (bloody mary, but with beer instead of Vodka) in town! Seriously, Jason has tried Micheladas from nearly every place in Austin! :)
  5. Magnolia Cafe - Magnolia is another Austin staple and definitely one of our favorites! Magnolia Cafe has 2 locations, one on South Congress, and the other near the lake, off Lake Austin Blvd. They're open 24 hours, which is always a plus! They have an amazing breakfast menu and the pancakes are our favorite! They have a great weekend brunch menu, with awesome mimosas and bellinis! Other favorite dishes are the Monte Cristo sandwich and the Veggie Burger. They have lots of outdoor seating, too, which is perfect for larger parties. Be sure to arrive early, since this place is always pretty busy, too!
  6. Bouldin Creek Cafe - Bouldin Creek is a great South Austin gem! They have a large menu of great food, and tons of vegetarian and vegan options, which is perfect for all your party! This place has some of the best vegetarian dishes in town! Their drink menu has a pretty large selection of great, local beer and wine. The 512 Porter is one of Jason's faves! Diana loves "The Beyonce" drink, as well. Be sure to try their sparkling Mojito for Brunch! If you miss brunch, they've got a great happy hour! :)
  7. Trudy's - Trudy's has a great menu with so many amazing choices! Their brunch menu is awesome and they have great Sunday brunch drink specials! They have $2.50 Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Salty Dogs, and much more! Trudy's has plenty of space for large parties, and lots of locations to choose from, in Austin, and one in Dripping Springs. We go to Trudy's pretty much weekly. Their Sopapillas are the BEST in town, especially since they're served with Austin's own, Amy's Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream! Try them, you'll love 'em! We also love the Cuban Martinis! :)
  8. Swift's Attic - Swift Attic is a great place, near downtown, on Congress Avenue. Their great Sunday brunch is from 10:30 AM - 3 PM, and they do take reservations, too! Their brunch menu has a good variety of food and lots of tasty cocktails! Be sure to try their build your own "Swift's Bloody Mary" or "Swift's Bloody Beer." Add some spice and it's delicious!
  9. Grand Lux Cafe - The Grand Lux is a chain, but still has amazing food! We prefer local, over chains, any day, but that's just our Austin-influence. :) The weekend brunch menu has a pretty good variety of food, with a great choice of pancakes, too! Their "morning cocktails" are awesome! Try their Strawberry Bellini, or the "Sparkling Spanish Rose." You won't be disappointed!
  10. Jack Allen's Kitchen - Jack Allen's does take reservations, which is great! They have a few locations in the Austin area, and one in Oak Hill, which isn't too far from the Dripping Springs area venues. Check out their brunch menu for all the great food and cocktails!

As always, while this list is a great list, there are so many great brunch places in Austin that we may not have included. We wrote this list aimed at great places that are able to accommodate for larger parties. Many of our favorite places did not get included, since we can't write the top 50 or 100 places (that would take way too long). I'm sure we left off a few of your favorites, too. Feedback and comments are always welcome!

Saturday, we provided our DJ services for a fun wedding ceremony and reception, at Vintage Villas, in Austin, Texas. The ceremony spot overlooks Lake Travis, and was perfect on this beautiful, cool spring day! Vintage Villas definitely has one of the best views for great wedding ceremony pictures!

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks during cocktail hour. After this, we introduced Darin & Andrea, as they walked in to "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," from Jet! Everyone enjoyed a great lunch, and did some dancing to Andrea and Darin's favorite Alternative, 60s, 70s, and Pop hits. Jason & Diana personally worked this event and provided the music for the entire event. The colors were Lavender/Purple and they looked great. We decided to add a few purple uplights, to tie the room together, which looked great, too! Overall, it was a fun daytime wedding. Congrats, again, to our couple Darin & Andrea!

Saturday night, we had a great time providing our DJ services for a fun Quinceanera at KC Hall, in Taylor, Texas. Mia and all of her friends and family celebrated her 15th birthday. We MCed the quinceanera traditions, such as changing of the shoes, the last doll presentation, presenting of the jewelry and crown, and of course the father/daughter and mother/daughter dances!

More and more, we're seeing mother/daughter dances and we love it! Mom's are just as important in their daughter's life, so we're glad to see more mother/daughter dances. Mia also danced with all of her uncles, as well. Overall, everyone had a great time, and our DJ, Jaime, did a great job keeping everyone dancing, all night, to their favorite Tejano, Cumbia, Norteno, Top 40, Hip Hop, and more!

As Austin's #1 Quinceanera DJ and Photo Booth service, we are fortunate to be a part of these pivotal family moments, every month, all year long! We look forward to our next Quinceanera, this weekend, in Austin, TX.
